What Travelers Say

5/5 from 27 verified GetYourGuide travelers

"Mrs Son is unstoppable, effusive and knowledgeable. She has a wonderful energy that made the whole time with her a cultural experience as well as a cooking class. I went with my partner and his adult daughter. It was raining, so we did the cooking in Son's shop about 20 minutes from the market. That gave us even more of an insight into Vietnamese life. We learnt to use a variety of ingredients, and Son gave detailed explanations. The only suggestion I would make is to only choose 3 dishes, we went for 4 and it was too much. All in all, an enjoyable and rich encounter with the strong flavours of Vietnamese cooking, and also lots of laughs with our very generous hostess. Highly recommended."

"We toured the market to buy ingredients for the dishes we had chosen. Ms Son was warm and eloquent and funny as she talked to us about what was going on - what the foods were and customs and answered our questions as she interacted with food vendors. We cooked and ate together in the lovely garden kitchen. Lots of conversation and laughs and learning mixed together. She was very interesting and open hearted with us."

"Mrs. Son was amazing! She took us through the market sharing with us the history of the market, how it operates and interacting with many of the vendors. Once we arrived to her kitchen, she guided us through the preparation and cooking making sure that we enjoyed our experience and learned while we were cooking an amazing dinner. We had great conversation while enjoying the meal that we prepared and highly recommend this tour!!"

"Mrs Son is a chatty, friendly and experienced cook. We are delighted that she is able to substitute our favourite bun bo rieu with the pho noodles in her cooking ‘menu’ and learn the ingredients to make this beautiful, aromatic dish. We love every minute of learning how to make spring rolls and curry chicken too. The only suggestion for anyone considering this class is to come with insect repellent as it is a garden kitchen. We didn’t have any and Mrs Son went out of her way to light up some insect repellent coils so we can get on with the cooking and food preparation without worries. Highly recommend this class to anyone who loves Vietnamese food. Thank you kindly Mrs Som!"

Caroline Australia

"The visit to the market was perfect for seeing how locals shop. We loved picking the dishes we were making and all were delicious!"

Suzanne United States

"We really enjoyed our cooking class with Son. She has a fun personality and the food we prepared was delicious."

Carole United States

"It was an interesting tour and Son is a lot of fun. She knew everyone at the market and took us through areas I’d not gone before. It was a laugh watching her interact. The weather was threatening rain so we drove out to her place instead of cooking in the garden. It was an interesting experience and the food was great. Just be mindful if you go have yo back to her place it will add an hour or so to the tour so it can make for a late night."
